MELKAM DESIGN
Our Story

Melkam means "good" — it's also our promise.

Melkam Design began in Addis Ababa with a simple aim: keep the craft of hand-loomed Habesha clothing alive, and make it easy for the diaspora to wear it wherever they've settled. Replace this paragraph with your own founding story.

Brand Philosophy

Made with weavers, not factories

Every kemis, netela and suit is made in small batches by hand, using cotton spun and woven the traditional way. That means production takes longer than a factory — and it means no two pieces are ever quite identical.

Built for the diaspora

We built our ordering process, and this website, around one question we heard constantly: "can you ship this to me abroad?" Now you can order from Addis Ababa or from anywhere else.
